The short version: The best quit porn app helps you build a life you don't want to escape from. Sherpa is built for exactly that. It's the only app we compared that starts with who you want to become, not the habit you want to stop. Its AI coach builds small daily steps with you and learns your patterns as you go, so it can step in before a hard moment hits. You climb a mountain as you go, a slip never takes your progress away, and a built-in blocker covers the apps that pull you in. If you only want a blocker, BlockerX has a free basic one. If you want someone you trust to see what you look at, pick Covenant Eyes.
We read 1,943 reviews people wrote about these apps in the past year. Then, on 30 October 2026, we installed them on the same phone and set each one up like a new user. We didn't pay for anything.
Which quit porn apps did we compare?
These are the five apps people mention most when they talk about quitting, plus Sherpa.
| App | Best for | Cost (US) | Store rating | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sherpa | An AI coach that gets to know you, and a plan built around who you want to become | Free | New on both stores | |
| BlockerX | Blocking adult sites, apps and words | $0.49 to $449.99 (Google Play) | 4.4 (App Store), 4.4 (Google Play) | |
| Brainbuddy | Lessons, and counting your days away from porn | $2.99 to $99.99 | 4.7 (App Store), 4.7 (Google Play) | |
| Covenant Eyes | A friend you pick sees reports of what you looked at | $19.99 to $219.99 | 4.3 (App Store), 4.7 (Google Play) | |
| Fortify | A free daily check-in and an SOS button | $12.00 a month to $199.99 forever | 4.8 (App Store), 3.7 (Google Play) | |
| QUITTR | Not on the stores now (see below) | Not shown | Not shown |
Prices are the in-app purchases each store lists, checked on 30 October 2026. The App Store lists none for BlockerX, so its range is from Google Play.
What happens when you set each app up?
This is what we saw in the other four apps when we set them up as a new user.
| App | Can you close the paywall? | What you can use without paying | After a slip |
|---|---|---|---|
| BlockerX | Yes, but three more sales screens follow | A basic blocker, with no account | Not tested |
| Brainbuddy | No | Nothing | We couldn't get there without paying |
| Covenant Eyes | Not tested, since it came after making an account | Nothing without an account | Not tested |
| Fortify | Yes, and it only shows when you tap Upgrade | A daily check-in, an SOS button and 30 AI coach messages a month | Its counter went back to zero |
Brainbuddy and BlockerX both asked us to rate them in the store before we'd really used them.
Is Sherpa right if you want a coach who gets to know you?
Most quit porn apps start with the thing you want to stop. Sherpa starts with who you want to become. You say it in your own words, like "a guitarist who can play a whole song at a party."
Then Sherpa's AI coach builds a plan with you in a short chat. Each step is small and has a time and a place, like "five minutes of chords after dinner". Sherpa helps you change your identity to someone you're proud of by filling your days with micro tasks rooted in science.

It gets to know you. The coach checks in every morning and asks how you are. At the end of each week, it looks back with you, keeps what worked and rewrites the plan.
It remembers what you've told it, so the plan fits you a little better every week.
It sees the hard moments coming. Pattern insights show your hardest hours and what sets them off. Sherpa reminds you before those hours come, often before you feel the pull yourself.
It's a climb, not a count. Every step you finish earns Altitude Points. You climb through five zones, from the Foothills of Awareness to the Summit of Clarity.
An O₂ meter shows how steady you've been lately, and it fills back up when you show up. Reach a new height and you earn a trail marker, a card you can leave in Base Camp for people climbing behind you.
It keeps the proof. After each step, you add a photo or a line to your timeline. At the top sits the sentence about who you're becoming.
Each week ends with a look back, where you name three things you did that the old you wouldn't have.

Little by little, the proof piles up. You stop being someone who's trying to quit porn. You start being more like your ideal self.
A slip doesn't undo any of it. Your points stay. The next morning, Sherpa asks what happened right before and builds today's plan around it.
It's there when the pull is strong. Shield pauses the apps you pick on your schedule and sends you back to today's step. Ride it out is a guided 3-minute urge surf that works with no signal, and there's breathwork and guided meditations too.

It's private. Your diary is designed to stay on your phone. In Base Camp, a community of people on the same path, you can post without your name.
How does Sherpa compare with what we saw in the others?
| What we saw in the other apps | What Sherpa does | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it starts | Questions about the habit you want to stop | Who you want to become, in your own words. It stays at the top of your Progress screen. |
| The coach | Fortify has an AI coach, with 30 free messages a month | Your AI coach builds the plan with you, checks in every morning and reviews every week |
| Your plan | Brainbuddy's lessons are the same for everyone | Small steps toward the person you described, rewritten each week to fit you |
| Progress | Brainbuddy counts your days away from porn | Altitude Points, five zones to climb and an O₂ meter |
| After a slip | Fortify's counter went from 22 days back to zero | Your points stay, and the next plan learns from what happened |
| What it keeps | A record of what you avoided | Proof of what you did, in photos and notes |
| Hard moments | BlockerX blocks the site, but gives you nothing to do instead | Sherpa learns your hardest hours, reminds you before they come and points you to today's step |
Skip it if you only want a blocker and don't want to change anything else.
Get Sherpa on the App Store or Google Play.
Is BlockerX right if you keep reaching the sites?

BlockerX blocks adult sites and apps, and you can add your own words to block. It's the most reviewed app here, with 604 written reviews in the past year.
People who like it say it works. Others say it blocks too much or too little. One Google Play reviewer kept getting blocked "on a DIY shop website" while looking at garden edging.
Reviewers also say it can be switched off. One wrote that they "can still uninstall the app just by turning off Device Admin."
In our test, the basic blocker was free and didn't need an account. That's rare in this list. But the selling was hard to miss.
Its quiz told us we were "41% more likely to be addicted" than others, then asked for a store rating. The first paywall came soon after, with a 6 minute countdown. Closing it led to three more sales screens, and the yearly plan showed at three prices within about 10 minutes: ₹2,250, then ₹1,700, then ₹2,200.
Skip it if you want help with what to do instead. A blocker keeps the site out, but it doesn't change the rest of your day.
Is Brainbuddy right if you want lessons and a count?
Brainbuddy counts your days away from porn. It adds a short check-up each day and a set of lessons.
Its Google Play reviews are mostly kind: 21.5% of the 288 written in the past year gave it one or two stars. One reviewer wrote that the lessons "perfectly describe the situation" they were in. Most complaints are about money, and some say the paywall only shows up after the quiz.

In our test, we answered 9 questions, read 13 short lessons, signed a pledge and planted a cartoon tree. About 18 minutes in came a paywall with no close button, no trial and no free version. Opening the app again led straight back to it.
Skip it if you want to try an app before you pay. On Android, there's no free version.
Is Covenant Eyes right if you want someone to check in?

Covenant Eyes works with an "ally," a person you pick. They see reports of what you looked at. On the iPhone, the app is called Victory Shield.
Its reviewers talk about the ally more than anything else. One Google Play reviewer said that knowing "I can't hide anything from my accountability partner" brings them peace. Others find the reports a hassle when normal work sites get flagged.
In our test, the "Explore For Free" button led to 9 questions, including your faith and if you're married. Then it asked us to make an account, and a paywall came right after sign-up. We stopped there, so we didn't see the reports.
Skip it if you don't have someone you'd trust with those reports.
Is Fortify still a good choice?

Fortify is a recovery program with tracking. Its App Store rating is high, but it looks quiet. Its Google Play app hasn't been updated since August 2025, and we found only 8 reviews written there in the past year.
Fortify asked for an account on its first screen. After that, setup had no paywall. The free version has a daily check-in, 30 AI coach messages a month and an SOS button that offers the coach, a friend, a meditation or something to do.
The paywall only showed when we tapped Upgrade: $12 a month or $89.99 a year, with a close button. When we logged a setback, the app showed a kind "Keep Going" screen. But its counter went from 22 days back to zero.
Skip it if a counter going back to zero after a slip hits you hard.
What happened to QUITTR?
QUITTR was one of the most talked about apps in this space. When we checked on 30 October 2026, its App Store page said the app wasn't found in the US, the UK, India, Canada, Australia and Germany.
Its Google Play web page said the same. In the Play app on our test phone, the listing said QUITTR isn't compatible and the developer was unknown. It was last updated on 1 June 2026.
We don't know why. In March 2026, 404 Media reported that QUITTR had exposed private data from hundreds of thousands of users.
Its reviews were rough too. Of the 181 written on the App Store in the past year, 86.7% gave it one or two stars, and 82.3% were about money.
If you still have QUITTR installed, check your subscription in your phone's settings.
Which app should you pick?
Start with what you want, then pick the app built for that.
| If you want this | Start with |
|---|---|
| To become someone new, not just stop one thing | Sherpa |
| A coach who learns your patterns and checks in every day | Sherpa |
| To keep your progress after a slip | Sherpa, where your points stay |
| To stop opening the sites without really deciding to | BlockerX, or Sherpa's Shield |
| Someone you trust to see what you do | Covenant Eyes, with an ally |
| To understand the habit first | Brainbuddy's lessons |
Plenty of people use two. A blocker can be switched off in a weak moment, so it works best next to a plan.
How we did this
We looked at five apps: BlockerX, Brainbuddy, Covenant Eyes, Fortify and QUITTR. For each one, we took the written reviews from the past year, from 30 October 2025 to 30 October 2026. That came to 1,943 reviews.
Google Play reviews are the newest ones in the US store, with no filter by star rating. App Store reviews are the newest ones from five countries. We tagged each review by topic with a fixed list of words, then read samples by hand to check the tags.
On 30 October 2026 we installed four apps from Google Play. Brainbuddy, Covenant Eyes and Fortify ran on an Android 16 emulator, a virtual phone made with Android's own tools. Google Play wouldn't install BlockerX there, so we used a Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.
On each screen we tapped the main button like a new user would. We saved a screenshot of every step. We never paid or started a trial.
Fortify ran on an older free account, so we didn't see its setup for new users. Our test account was in India, so in-app prices showed in rupees. The first table uses US store prices instead.
We'll update this post when prices or features change.
Questions people ask

What happens to my progress after a relapse?
Fortify's counter went back to zero in our test. In Sherpa, your points stay. The next morning, it helps you plan around what happened.
